Attendance Policies

To report a student’s absence from school, either call the Poinsettia attendance line at (805) 289-7971 x 1002, email Poinsettia.Attendance@venturausd.org, report the absence on ParentSquare, or speak with the office staff each day that your child is absent. Notifying just the classroom teacher will not clear an absence.

Please include the following information in your message:

1. Your child’s name.

2. Your name. Only parents and legal guardians may clear absences.

3. Your child’s teacher’s name.

4. The date of your child’s absence.

5. The reason for your child’s absence, for example:

A. Sick. Please give specifics such as runny nose, fever, cough, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. Note that students need to be fever free without the assistance of medication and free from vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.

B. Vacation.

C. Medical/Dental appointment.

D. Bereavement for a death in the immediate family. The district allows 1 day excused for local area, 3 days for out of town.

6. If your child is absent with any of the Covid symptoms listed below, you must submit a screenshot of a negative Covid test.  Home test kits are acceptable.  Please submit the screenshot to BOTH poinsettia.attendance@venturausd.org AND poinsettiaCOVIDtestresults@venturausd.org.  

Covid symptoms: fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea. 

 

SATURDAY SCHOOL

We are very pleased to offer Saturday School at Poinsettia School on Saturday, October 12, 2024, December 7, 2024, February 22, 2025, and April 26, 2025 each day from 8am-12:15pm, for grade K-5 students who have missed one or more days of school this year. Students will participate in a variety of enriching and exciting activities which may include science, art, music, games, reading, writing, social studies, and mathematics. A meal will be served at 10:00 am to students at no charge. 

Students who attend Saturday School will have one absence cleared (attendance at Saturday School does not clear a future absence, only a previously incurred absence); our goal is to average less than three (3) absences per child for the school year. This is an opportunity to work toward that goal and/or retain perfect attendance status. There are a limited number of seats in each class that will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from school. Call the office at 289-7971 if you have any questions.

Sign up forms will be sent out to Poinsettia students a few weeks prior to each Saturday school date or you can contact the school office to sign up at (805) 289-7971.
